Catch monkeys. Match animal sounds. Make music. Join Barney and his friends as they visit the jungle in this series of learning activities!
Project Brief
Barney's Jungle Friends is an engaging and educational web game designed for children aged 3-7, centered around the beloved character Barney the Dinosaur. Players participate in mini-games that promote basic skills like counting, matching, and problem-solving, all while fostering a love for nature and wildlife. The game features colorful graphics, cheerful music, and simple controls to ensure an enjoyable and accessible experience for its young audience.
Challenges
Two things stand out when I think about this project. First, having to hear Barney's voice on repeat was both a blessing and a curse—it was exciting to work with Barney's voiceover artist, but after getting the audio files, the voice quickly became grating. I'm sure the kids loved it, though. Second, was the challenge of finding an audio clip of a giraffe. To this day, I don’t think I’ve ever heard a giraffe sound anywhere else besides the 'Every Animal Talks' mini-game in Barney's Jungle Friends.
Conclusion
Barney's Jungle Friends successfully combines engaging gameplay with educational content, creating a delightful experience for young children. Despite the challenges of repetitive voiceovers and unique audio sourcing, the project stands as a testament to the balance between fun and learning, bringing the beloved Barney character to life in a way that resonates with its core audience.
